About usThe Ministry of Inspiration (MOI) is a Nelson-based charitable trust that has been giving young people real, practical experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts, maths and society (STEAMS) since 2011. Our programmes include:STEAMS School: weekly classes in Nelson, Richmond and BlenheimNZ Aquabots: underwater robotics competitions, run by MOI as the exclusive NZ provider in more than a dozen centres from Northland to ChristchurchRoboCup Jr: landbased robotics competitions focusing on OnStage and RescueINSPIRE: our annual STEAMS festival Why nowWe believe every young person in Aotearoa deserves real, hands-on chances to do practical science and technology. That means building problem-solving skills and discovering the pathways STEAMS can open for them, through experiences that are accessible, local and unmistakably MOI.Our 2026-2029 Strategic Plan reflects our hope that, by 2029, MOI will be widely valued as one of Aotearoa's leading providers of hands-on STEAMS education. Getting there depends on our people on the ground, so our Board is building strong regional partnerships that bring local funding and support to those who deliver our programmes.To get there, our Board has a clear path to:build strong regional partnerships, so more rangatahi can take part closer to homebetter support the people who deliver our programmessecure a national sponsorship partner and build financial reservesgrow co-designed partnerships with Māori and kura kaupapa Māori communitiesWe're looking for one or two new Trustees to help turn that plan into results. Who we're looking forWe'd especially welcome people with experience in one or more of these areas:Finance: budgeting, reserves, financial reporting (Treasurer experience a bonus)Fundraising and sponsorship: corporate partnerships, grant funding, business networksLegal and governance: contracts, policy, risk and child safeguardingMāori partnerships: building co-designed relationships with iwi, hapū and kura kaupapa MāoriYou don't need to be a scientist or an educator. What matters is that you care about young people having the chance to discover what they're capable of, and that you'll bring sound judgement and a practical, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude. What's involvedAbout 6-7 Board meetings a year, predominantly online, plus a few hours a month on a portfolio areaA voluntary roleA welcoming, committed Board and a passionate team.
